Accident claim risk 'covers mental as well as physical ailments'RSS Feed
Businesses across Northern Ireland are being reminded to promote positive mental health and wellbeing in the workplace.
The Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI) has launched new guidance that highlights how employers and employees can work together to improve mental wellbeing.
It advises firms on how to take a positive organisation-wide approach by implementing changes in ways of working, such as improved line management and the provision of flexible working.
Professor Peter McKie, chairman of HSENI, said this should be a priority issue both for private and public sector organizations.
He added: "Employers should recognise the early warning signs of work-related mental health conditions such as stress, depression and anxiety and take appropriate measures to build healthier, more resilient workplaces."
HSENI is an executive non-departmental public body sponsored by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment (DETI).
It is the lead body responsible for the promotion and enforcement of health and safety at work standards in Northern Ireland.
