Accident at work prevention 'easier and cheaper than claims'RSS Feed
It is easier and cheaper to prevent incidents than deal with accident claims afterwards, employers have been told.
Roger Bibbings, occupational safety adviser for the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), claims the key to avoiding an accident at work is early intervention.
He notes that slips, trips and falls account for 40 per cent of all major workplace accidents, and one-fifth of these lead to an employee being off for three days or more.
Good lighting, drawing attention to sudden changes in level, and making sure smooth floor surfaces are kept clear are some tips offered by Mr Bibbings.
"All such measures are cheap and easy compared to the pain and cost of falls leading to fractures and other injuries," he added.
His comments come as the Health and Safety Executive launches a nationwide crackdown on unsafe construction sites in a bid to cut accident claims.
